LA PORTE CITY - Lynn H. Steffens, 83, of La Porte City, died Friday, Oct. 30, at Sunnycrest Nursing Center, Dysart, from complications of Alzheimer's disease.

He was born Dec. 27, 1925, in Newell, son of Harold and Emma Rawley Steffens. He married Mary Robinson on Aug. 11, 1961, in Osage.

Mr. Steffens served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict and had worked at John Deere for 27 years, retiring in 1987. He was a member of the Black Hawk County Gem and Mineral Society and was an avid rock hound.

Survived by: his wife; two sons, Jeffrey of Waterloo and Ted (Rachele) of La Porte City; four grandchildren, Derek, Eric, Conner and Olivia; and many nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by: his parents; two brothers, Max and Royce; and five sisters, Irene Norris, Ruby Sauter, Buenetta Reiter, Eva Montieth and Darlene Steffens.

Memorial services: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at American Lutheran Church, with inurnment in West View Cemetery, both in La Porte City. Military rites will be conducted by La Porte City American Legion San Diego Post 207 and VFW Post 3983. Public visitation an hour before services Tuesday at the church, with family present. La Porte City Funeral Service is assisting the family.
