EVANSDALE - Alford K. Piercy, 78, of Evansdale, died Thursday, Oct. 15, at St. Luke's Hospital, Cedar Rapids.

He was born April 15, 1931, in West Plains, Mo., son of Joseph R. and Ada M. Wollan Piercy. He married Betty Lou Francis on Sept. 7, 1956, in Rover, Mo. She preceded him in death June 16, 2005.

He was a U.S. Army Veteran serving during the Korean War. Mr. Piercy worked as a clerk for the Illinois Central Gulf Railroad for 38 ½ years, retiring in 1989. He was a member of Evansdale AMVETS Post 31.

Survived by: a stepson, Raymond L. Dumire of Evansdale; a granddaughter; two great-grandchildren; two sisters, Ruth Fricks of Hever Springs, Ark., and Martha Piercy of Ottawa, Ill.; five nieces; five nephews; two sisters-in-law, Judy Medd of Waterloo and Martha Sebetka of Tama; and a brother-in-law, Donald Francis of Raymond.

Preceded in death by: his parents; his wife, Betty Lou; two brothers, Thomas "Buster" and Paul Piercy; and a sister, Mary McCalister.

Memorial services: 10:30 a.m. Monday at Garden View Chapel Funeral Home, with inurnment in Garden of Memories Cemetery, Waterloo. Full military honors will be conducted by Becker-Chapman American Legion Post #138 and VFW Post 1623. Public visitation for an hour before services Monday at the chapel.
