SCHAEFER, DUFFY, CAVANAUGH, MANGRICH, MEYER

WATERLOO - Leona M. Cavanaugh Schaefer, 98, of Waterloo, died Friday, Oct. 16, at Manor Care Health Center of natural causes.

She was born April 11, 1911, in Blessing, daughter of James and Elizabeth Duffy Cavanaugh. She married Ted Schaefer on June 10, 1936, in Blessing. He died in 1991.

She graduated in 1929 from St. Mary's of Mount Carmel, Eagle Center, and from nursing school in 1932. She was employed in private nursing for several years.

Survived by: a daughter, Patricia Mangrich of Waterloo; five grandchildren, Mike Mangrich, Greg Mangrich, Jeff (Lisa) Mangrich, Deb (Ron) Ehlers and Angel (Ken) Pierce; 12 great-grandchildren, Michelle, Scott, Rian, Brant, Kayla, Nathan, Shane, Amanda, Andrew, Miranda, Jayson, and Chris; a great-great-grandson, Gage; a brother, Earl Cavanaugh of Waterloo; and a sister-in-law, Frances Cavanaugh of Reinbeck.

Preceded in death by: seven brothers, William, Edward, James, Clarence, Elmer, Ralph and George Cavanaugh; two sisters, Gertrude Greany and Annie Meyer; and a son-in-law, LaVern Mangrich.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary's of Mount Carmel Catholic Church, with burial in the church cemetery, both in Eagle Center. Public visitation from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on South Street, where there will be a 5 p.m. rosary. Visitation also for an hour before services Tuesday at the church.
