John R. Hogan, 80, of Lansing, died Saturday, Oct. 10, 2009, at Thornton Manor Care Center, Lansing, following a short illness.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 14, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, with burial in Gethsemane Cemetery, both in Lansing. Military honors will be accorded at the cemetery.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Thornburg-Hanson Funeral Home, Lansing, where there will be a Scripture service at 8 p.m.

John is survived by his wife, Margaret; four children, Susan Rothman of Lakeville, Minn., Kevin (Donna) Hogan and Mary Kate Hogan, both of Lansing, and Patrick (Robin) Hogan of LaCrosse, Wis.; eight grandchildren, Russell and Douglas Rothman and Sean, Kate, Dillon, Nellie, Shannon and Connor Hogan; four siblings, Patty (Joe) Entz of Waterloo, Paul (Jane) Hogan of Des Moines, Margaret (John) Feeley of Crystal Lake, Ill., and Carol (Carl) Esker of Cedar Rapids.

John was born in Black Hawk County to Daniel and Bernice (Houck) Hogan. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He married Margaret Brennan on Aug. 6, 1955, at Immaculate Conception Church, Lansing. He worked for Brennan Construction from 1957 until he retired in 1991. He was a life member of Knights of Columbus, enjoyed playing golf and enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren play sports.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two siblings, Mary Lou Recker and Charles Hogan.
