Diane Marie Wagenaar, 57, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, went home to be with the Lord on Sept. 26, 2009, after a yearlong illness. Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 3, at St. Matthew's Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids by the Rev. Ivan Nienhaus. Teahen Funeral Home is serving the family.
A native of Iowa, she was born to John and Esther Corrigan in Waterloo, Iowa. A graduate of Mount Mercy College and the University of Iowa, she dedicated her life to caring for others and had a particular desire to serve the elderly as a wound care nurse and nurse practitioner. Married to Fred Wagenaar for 33 years. Together they enjoyed weekend trips in their motor home, trips to Europe and coffee together. Diane had a particular love for photography, gardening, rug hooking, fibers and cooking.
She is survived by her husband, Fred of Cedar Rapids; and three children, Timothy Wagenaar (Kristie Grebe-Wagenaar) of Northborough, Mass., Sarah Myers (Jacob) of Maxwell, Iowa, and Hannah Wagenaar of Ames, Iowa, and her boyfriend Aaron Rector of Canon City, Colo.; her mother, Esther Corrigan of New Hartford, Iowa; brothers, Mike (Cheryl) Corrigan of Rochester, Wash., and Daniel (Stacy) Corrigan of Cedar Falls, Iowa; sister Betty (Jim) Jamison of Streetsboro, Ohio; mother-in-law, Mabel Wagenaar of Sheldon, Iowa; beloved grandson, Paden; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father, John Corrigan; father-in-law, Michael Wagenaar; grandparents, Claus and Frieda Hein; brother-in-law, Hank Wagenaar; aunt, Betty Branum; uncle, Albert Hein; and dear friend and great-aunt, Jenny Wagenaar.
Her family would like to thank the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy for the care they provided for her and the family.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial scholarship has been set up at Mount Mercy College.
