WATERLOO - Vernon A. Reiter, 82, of Waterloo, died Monday, Sept. 28, at Allen Hospital.

He was born May 10, 1927, in Sioux Falls, S.D., son of Harry and Anna Aurit Reiter. He married LaVonne Lewis on Feb. 22, 1949, in Sioux Falls, and they later divorced. He married Caryl Nagel on Oct. 17, 1981, at St. Edward Catholic Church, Waterloo.

Mr. Reiter was president and CEO of Waterloo Tent & Tarp Co. Inc. and Reiter Enterprise Inc. He was a World War II veteran, serving in the U.S. Navy.

Survived by: his wife; four daughters, Barbara (Chris) Reiter Roberts of Berlin, Germany, Judith (Alan) Harberts of Holland, Jean (Robert) Dyer Yost of Palmyra, N.Y., and Judy (Kenny) Livingston of Elk Run Heights; two sons, Robert Nagel of Iowa City and Herb (Priscilla) Nagel of Denver, Colo.; 15 grandchildren, Anna Jane (Tim) Santor, Jim Harberts, Hannah (Justin) Redix, Philip, Jacob, Abby and Eli Harberts, Heather Dyer, Comfort (Justin) Rogers, David (Christina) Nagel, Jonathan (Rachel) Nagel, Joia Nagel, Kelly (Shaun) Sanders, David Livingston and Khloe Nagel; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by: a daughter, Jane Ann McVey; a son-in-law, Joseph Froehner; and two sisters and brothers-in-law, Dolores (Darold) Kruse and Eleanor (Merle) Blau.

Services: 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Edward Catholic Church, with burial in Mount Olivet Cemetery. Public visitation from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway, where there will be a 4 p.m. rosary and a 7 p.m. vigil. Visitation also an hour before services Saturday at the church.

Memorials: may be directed to the church in Waterloo or St. Joseph Cathedral, Sioux Falls.
