Elaine Ruth McCracken, 85, widow of Richard D. McCracken of Wauconda, Ill., passed away July 24, 2009, with her daughters at her side.

She was born Jan. 7, 1924, in Waterloo, to Joseph and Hulda Holdiman. She married Jake Harman from Guide Rock, Neb., where she made her home and began a family of three children, eventually moving to Hastings, Neb. She remained in Hastings for many decades where she was a member of First Methodist Church and an active member of the Ladies Auxiliary to the VFW.

She is survived by her loving son and loving daughters, Thomas Harman of Hastings, Patricia and Timothy Antonio of Portland, Ore., and Susan Hather of Vancouver, Wash. She was a dear grandmother to Jacquelyn and Mark Kelker with great-granddaughter, Giovanna of Shawnee, Kan., Gabe Harman of Hastings and Tony Harman of Hastings.

Also surviving are her brothers and sisters, which include Bill and Deloris Holdiman of Waterloo, Peggy Thompson of Evansdale, Daniel Holdiman of Vancouver and Alice Holdiman of Decorah.

Also dear to her heart was Eileen Harman, who demonstrated many loving acts of kindness throughout the years.

She was a warm loving mother, grandmother, sister and aunt; a kind and gentle spirit who enriched the lives of all who knew her.

Private services and burial with the family were held in Hastings. Kisselburg- Wauconda Funeral Home, Wauconda, was in charge of arrangements.
