DUNKERTON - Donald W. Porter, 59, of Dunkerton, died at home Sunday, Sept. 27.

He was born Sept. 24, 1950, in Manchester, son of William Homer and Mary Ann Miller Porter. He married Deborah Hunnicutt on Aug. 25, 1973, in Waterloo, and they were later divorced.

Mr. Porter graduated from Maquoketa Valley High School, Delhi, in 1968; attended the University of Iowa for a year, then enlisted in the U.S. Army. He was honorably discharged on June 3, 1969. He attended Ellsworth Community College and later earned his bachelor's degree from the University of Northern Iowa in 1977. He worked as an engineer for John Deere and Co. for 34 years, retiring Aug. 1, 2008.

Survived by: a daughter, Moriah Porter-Peverill of Dunkerton; two sons, Jason (Danielle Anderson) of Dunkerton and Aaron (Lisa) of Evansdale; eight grandchildren, Vanessa, Elijah, Isaiah, Alanna, Lilyann, Coleman, Isabelle and Caitlynn; his mother of Delhi; a sister, Jean (Steve) Wall of Delhi; and two brothers, Ken (Edima) of Cibilo, Texas, and Jim (Diane) of Burlington.

Preceded in death by: his father.

Services: 11 a.m. Friday at Kearns, Huisman-Schumacher Chapel, Waterloo. Full military honors will be conducted by Waterloo AMVETS Post 19 and Evansdale AMVETS Post 31. Public visitation after 9:30 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Donald enjoyed the outdoors, including camping and golfing. He loved to ride his Harley Davidson motorcycle, liked to cook and was a huge wrestling fan.
