WATERLOO - Melvin C. Knebel, 89, of Waterloo, died Monday, Sept. 21, at his daughter's home.

He was born Aug. 13, 1920, in New Hampton, son of Charles and Mary Dolmage Knebel. He married Patricia Beagles on Oct. 21, 1950, in Waterloo.

Mr. Knebel worked as a machinist for John Deere Co. for 36 years, retiring in 1982. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II.

Survived by: his wife; a son, David (Patti) of Cedar Falls; four daughters, Becky Werner and Nancy (Dan) Higgins, both of Evansdale, and Kris Knebel and Kathy (Jim) Linkenmeyer, both of Cedar Falls; eight grandchildren, Brooke (Mike), Brent, Brian, Kelsy, Luke, Dane, Abby and Tyler; a brother, Leo of Waterloo; a sister, Mary Smith of Sumner; and a sister-in-law, Mary Knebel of Jesup.

Preceded in death by: his parents; six brothers, Ambrose, Elmo, Earl, Ralph, John and Paul; and three sisters, Rita Weber, Edith Lavenz and Dorothy Jungen.

Services: 11 a.m. Friday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, with burial in Garden of Memories Cemetery. Military rites will be conducted by Becker-Chapman American Legion Post 138 and VFW Post 1623. Public visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Kearns, Huisman-Schumacher Chapel on Kimball, with a 7 p.m. Scripture service. Visitation also an hour before services Friday at the church.
