Mrs. Anna Phillips, County Resident 50 Years, Dies, Age 72

Mrs. Anna Phillips, 72, resident of Black Hawk county for 50 years, and mother of 12 surviving children, died at her home near Raymond at 9 p.m. yesterday. Funeral arrangements await word from relatives.

She was the widow of Henry P. Phillips, who was fatally shot by a sewing machine agent in 1911 when Phillips ordered the man off his premises. The family has been prominent in Poyner township for many years.

Mrs. Phillips was born at sea Feb. 16, 1853, while her parents were coming to America from Germany. She is survived by 12 children, seven sons and five daughters. They are: Frank, John, Mrs. Nicholas Saddler and Mrs. Mary Youngblut, Jesup; Nicholas, Mathias P., and Theodore, Waterloo; Henry, Mrs. Susan Krause and Mrs. Cecelia Frost, Raymond; Dr. J. H. Phillips, Grant, Ill., and Mrs. Frank Youngblut, Oran, Ia.

Three sisters and three brothers are also living.
