Mrs. Elizabeth Burger, of Washburn, Answered Final Summons Saturday.
Lived There Many Years
Four Grown Children Are Left to Mourn Her Death -- Funeral Monday Morning.

Mrs. Elizabeth Burger, of Washburn died at 3:45 o'clock Saturday morning of ulceration of the stomach and complications. Death came to her at the home of a son, John Burger, on a farm near Washburn, with whom she had lived for the past year and a half.

Mrs. Burger's illness dates over a period of eighteen months. On Feb. 7, 1907, she found her husband dead in a chair at their home, and the resultant shock caused her to become ill. She was never quite herself again.

Deceased was born in Germany, November 15, 1846. Twenty-seven years ago she and her husband moved to Blackhawk county and took up their residence on a farm near Washburn in Cedar township. There they made their home the remainder of their lives.

Six children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Burger, two of whom preceded their parents to the grave. The living children are Henry, William and Mrs. Nick Kemp, of Jesup, and John of Washburn.

Funeral services will be conducted Monday morning at 9:30 o'clock at the Catholic church in Gilbertville. The Rev. Father Nemmers will officiate, and burial will be in the Catholic cemetery at that place.

Mrs. Burger of Washburn Dies
Resided in Waterloo for a Short Time.
Returned to Old Home at Washburn Last May.

This morning at 3:45 o'clock occurred the death of Mrs. Elizabeth Burger at the home of her son, John, at Washburn. Her death is attributed to an ulcerated stomach. She has not been well since the death of her husband, Frank Burger, a year ago last February.

Mrs. Burger was born in Germany at Koeln on the Rhine, Nov. 15, 1846. In 1872 she married Frank Burger and they came to this country in 1881, and settled at Eagle Center, later they moved to Jesup, lived a while in Fox township and then moved to Washburn. Mr. Burger died suddenly in his chair February 9, 1907, his wife being the only one present. The shock of his death was too great for her and she has never been so well since. Mrs. Burger lived in Waterloo a large part of last year returning to Washburn to the home of her son, John, in May. She had six children, two of which, Frankie and Anna, died while very small. The surviving children are Henry and William of Jesup, John of Washburn, and Mrs. Nick Kemp of Jesup. She was a good woman and a willing worker in the Catholic church at Gilbertsville of which she was a member. She was a hard worker and very popular with her neighbors. The funeral services will be held Monday morning at 9:30 at Gilbertsville. Rev. Father Nemmers will officiate. The following relatives from some distance will attend with their families: Anton Burger of Oelwein, Wm. Burger of Eagle Center, Conrad and Peter Klein, Fred Burger and Mrs. Mary Burger of Waterloo.
