Harriet Schmitt, 100, of Waterloo, died Friday Dec. 25, 2009 at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home of natural causes. She was born November 22, 1909 at Sioux City, Iowa, daughter of Hans and Ella Frost Hansen. She married Orville Anton Schmitt on March 17, 1925 in Waterloo. He died October 21, 1990. She and her husband farmed all their life in the Dewar area, moving to Waterloo in 1988. Survived by: Three Daughters, Bonnie (Marv) Wissink of Waterloo, Lois (Don) Reicherts, of Waterloo, Jeanette McMahon of Dewar; a son, Clarence “Curly” (Wilma) Schmitt of Manchester; 20 grandchildren, 47 great grandchilden, 29 great-great grandchildren, Preceded in death by: her parents; two sons, Wayne and Jerry; a grandson, Steven Wissink; a great grandson, Luke Wilkens; a son in law, Robert McMahon; four sisters, Blanche (Alvin) Parker, Marie (Clyde) VanAntwerp Jr., Maxine (Sigard) Stottrup, Evalee (Kenneth) Elkema. Services: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Edward Catholic Church with Entombment in Mt. Olivet Masoleum. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at the Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on South Street were there a Vigil Service at 6 pm Friends may also call one hour preceding services at the church on Tuesday.
