Robert P. Edgerton (1931-2009)
Waterloo-Robert P. Edgerton, 78, of Waterloo, died Sunday, Dec. 13, at home from complications of Alzheimer's.
He was born Sept. 4, 1931, in Waterloo, son of Frank and Martha Sackett Edgerton. He married Ramona Nicol on Aug. 19, 1950, at Calvary Bible Church, Washburn.
Mr. Edgerton worked 20 years at Wonder Bread Bakery before beginning his own business, Edgerton Construction, which he operated until retiring in 1996.
He was an active member of Calvary Bible Church, Gideon's International and KNWS board. He started running marathons at age 50 and was member of the Cedar Valley Runners Club.
He is survived by his wife; two sons, Robert Jr. (Corynne) of Cedar Falls and Lowell "Joe" (Brenda) of La Porte City; two daughters, Sheryl (Allen) Williamson of Vilonia, Ark., and Deanne (Jim) Jensen of Lake Forest, Calif.; nine grandchildren, Robert (Dana) Edgerton III, Joshua (Stephanie) Edgerton, Lori Edgerton, Lindsey Edgerton, Emily Williamson, Luke (Lauren) Williamson, Allison Edgerton, Nicole LaTour, and Natasha Jensen; four great-grandchildren, Hudson and Harper Edgerton, Hannah Williamson and Camden Edgerton; and five sisters, Beverly (Maynard) Ellison and Mary Cole, both of Waterloo, Kay (Jim) Zarfis of Temple City, Calif., and Elizabeth Ebers and Faith Edgerton, both of Vandalia, Missouri.
Preceded in death by: a brother, Frank Page Edgerton Jr.; and two sisters, JoAnne Randall and Martha Berends.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Locke Funeral Home, with burial in Orange Township Cemetery. Public visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
