Edward E. Holm Sr. (1927-2009)

Waterloo, Iowa - Edward E. Holm Sr., 82, of Waterloo, died Wednesday, December 16, at Manor Care Center Nursing and Rehab Center.

He was born April 11, 1927, in Spirit Lake, son of John Oscar and Alvena Spies Holm. He married Wanda Mae Earnest on December 22, 1951, in Waterloo. He was a section manager for the Illinois Central Railroad for 30 years, retiring in 1987. He was a World War II Army Veteran. He was a member of Grace Brethren Church in Waterloo, Evansdale AMVETS Post and the United States Bowling Congress.

He is survived by his wife; three sons, Edward E. Jr., Daniel C. and Samuel C., all of Waterloo; six grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents; six brothers, Robert, Ted, Howard, Willard, John, and Bart; and two sisters, Mildred Brown and Eva Garloff.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Grace Brethren Church, with burial with military honors in Garden of Memories Cemetery. Public visitation from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Kearns, Huisman-Schumacher Chapel, and for an hour before services Monday at the church.

Memorials may be directed to the family or Grace Brethren Church.
