FRED KROLL DIES; HERE FIFTY YEARS

Pioneer Succumbs Sunday to Influenza in Jefferson Street Home at Age of 83

Fred Kroll, a resident of Waterloo for more than 50 years, during which period he always lived in the First ward, died at his home, 127 Jefferson street, at 1:45 p.m. yesterday. He was 83 years old. Altho in failing health for several months, Mr. Kroll was able to be about until two weeks ago when he was taken ill from what has been called summer influenza. His wife, who is 84, is bedfast from the same complaint, but was better this morning. Mr. Kroll was conscious until the last.

Mr. Kroll was born in Germany Feb. 1, 1838. He came with his wife direct to Waterloo soon after his marriage. He was deeply interested, even until the day of his death, in the news events of his home city and of the world at large. He was especially interested in reading about the experiences of the early settlers of this vicinity.

The remains were taken to the O'Keefe & Towne funeral home, where services will be at 2:30 p.m. tomorrow. Burial will be in Elmwood beside his son, Carl, whose death a year ago was the first in the family circle.

Besides the widow the following children survive; E.G. Kroll, Davenport, Ia.; George and Louis, Chicago; Mrs. J.C. Knudsen, Mrs. F.W. Weiland and Fred C. Kroll, Waterloo. All the children are here except Louis.
