Charles Herbert (Bert) Lichty, 64, grandson of Orange township pioneers, died at 11:30 a. m. Wednesday in St. Francis hospital of intestinal cancer.

He had been ill for many month, having received treatment in Isolation hospital before being moved to St. Francis more than a month ago.

Mr. Lichty, who lived at 909 Randolph street with two sisters and a brother, was a son of Josiah and Elizabeth Lichty; they had come to Orange township about 1860 with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Abraham Lichty and Mr. and Mrs. Charles Budd.

Mr. Lichty had spent his entire life in Black Hawk county. Before coming to Waterloo, about 30 years ago, he and a brother, James, operated a farm in Orange. In recent years, he had been unable to work steadily because of lameness following a leg fracture.
Mr. Lichty had been a member of First Brethren church 26 years.

Surviving are four brothers and four sisters: James and William Lichty, Tracy, Minnesota; Frank, of California; Albert, Etta and May Lichty 909 Randolph; Mrs. Oscar Cook, Route 3, and Mrs. Genevieve E. Klein, 325 Eleventh street west.

The body was taken to the Hileman & Gindt funeral home.
