Funeral services are pending at Kearns-Dykeman Chapel for Verne E. Lichty, 38, of 420 E. 7th St., who died of a heart attack at the Maple Lane Bowling Alley at 8:07 p.m. Wednesday. The fire department inhalator was called but Lichty was dead when they arrived.

Lichty was born May 15, 1921, in Waterloo, Iowa, the son of Verne E. and Ann Guyer Lichty. He was graduated from East High school in 1939, and worked for a short time at the Lockheed aircraft Corp. in Burbank, California, before entering the Navy in August, 1942.

Lichty was in the Navy until May, 1946, when he was discharged with the rank of boatswain’s mate second class. Until his death he was employed as a tool and die maker at the John Deere Tractor Works.

Lichty married Hazel Brandt on Aug. 16, 1946, in Waterloo. He was a member of First Lutheran Church, Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 328, and the Sportsman’s Club of Waterloo.

He is survived by his wife; a sister, Miss Dorothy Lichty, of San Jose, Calif., and his mother, Mrs. Ann Lichty of 1204 Mulberry St.

He was preceded in death by his father in December, 1920.
