Merle C. Strayer, 72, of 1321 Grant St., died of a stroke at his home at 6 a.m. Thursday.
He was born July 2, 1891, at Johnstown, Pa., son of John E. and Julia Strayer. He married Bessie E. Lichty Aug. 27, 1911, at the present family home.
For 38 years Mr. Strayer was rate clerk here for the Chicago, Rock Island & Pacific Railroad, retiring in July of 1956. He was presently employed by the Waterloo-Cedar Falls Traffic Association. He was a member of Waterloo Church of the Brethren.
Surviving are his widow; one son, Ray L. Strayer, Tucson, Ariz.; one daughter, Mrs. Thomas Tompson, Fairmont, Minn.; a sister, Mrs. Arthur Cooper, Palm Desert, Calif.; one brother, P. R. Strayer of 225 W. 5th St.; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by three brothers, two sisters and parents.
Funeral services are pending at the Parrott and Wood Funeral Home where friends may call after Friday noon.
