Rites for Mrs. Hummel
Resident of This Vicinity
For 84 Years Dies Here Saturday

Mrs. Dan Hummel, who had lived in this vicinity and in town for all of her eighty-four years, died at her home here at 4:30 Saturday morning. She suffered a stroke July 27 and broke her hip when she fell. She has been unable to speak since then.

Rebecca Gallarno was born Aug. 20, 1856, in La Porte City. On August 26 the Hummels observed their sixty-third year of married life. They were married in Waterloo, after which they farmed west of town until 1903 when the retried, moving into the same house in which she died.

Surviving here is her husband; one daughter, Mrs. Mabel Wagar; one brother, George Gallarno of Des Moines; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Charles, a son, preceded her in death.

Mrs. Hummel was very active in both the Methodist church and the Pythian Sisters lodge until her health failed her a number of years ago.

Funeral services were Monday afternoon at the Methodist church with Rev. G. D. Gaide officiating; burial was at West View cemetery. Pallbearers were Weldon Betts, Fred Lebman, Bill Bahr, Lyle Bannister, Lew Ritter and John Lebman.
