John Dirkes, 75, well known resident of Cedar township, died at Presbyterian hospital Saturday of complications incidental to old age after an allness(sic) of one week. He was born at Bauler Kreis, Bittenbuburg(sic), Germany, Jun 1 1846.

At the age of 18 Mr. dirkes came to America with his parents who settled at Aurora, Ill., in 1865. After a stay of two years, John, and his brother, Peter, migrated to Albany, Minn., where he resided until 1895, when he and his family moved to Gilbertville. A short time later he purchased a farm home north of Washburn, where he lived until his death.

Mr. Dirkes married to Margaretha Dobmeir(sic) Feb. 18, 1873, at St. Cloud, Minn. Eleven children were born to the union, eight of whom, with the widow, survive, as follows: Elizabeth, Andrew, Charles, Mathias, William, Anthony, Barbara and Adam. All reside in this vicinity excepting Andrew whose home is at Paynesville, Minn., and Mathias, living in Detroit, Mich.

Funeral services will be at the house Tueday at 9 a.m. followed by requiem mass at Immaculate Conception church in Gilbertville, at 10 a. m. Interment will be in the parish cemetery.
