Harold S. Martin

Harold S. Martin, 74, of Belle Plaine died Sunday, Nov. 18, 2001 at his home.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Hrabak Funeral Home in Belle Plaine. Lunch will be served at the American Legion Hall immediately after the service.

Memorials in Mr. Martin's name may be made to the American Cancer Society. Cards may be sent to Mildred Martin, Belle Plaine Nursing and Rehab Center, 1505 Sunset Drive, Belle Plaine 52208.

Mr. Martin was born June 10, 1927, in Fairfield, the son of Earl and Mildred McCormick Martin. He married Mildred Underwood April 6, 1947, in Winfield.

After graduating from Fairfield High School in 1944, Mr. Martin joined the United States Navy for a tour of duty during World War II until 1947. Before retirement, he was employed by Hawkeye Refrigerated Service and other firms as a long-haul truck driver. He and his wife drove as a team for many years.

He was a member of the American Legion Post in Belle Plaine, and after retiring, he did volunteer work at Belle Plaine Community Center and Belle Plaine Nursing and Rehab Center.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Kathy Kocer and husband Robert of Cedar Rapids and Linda Jenkins and husband of Aurora, Colo.; six grandchildren; and one brother, Donald Martin of Fairfield.
