HEART ATTACH CAUSES
DEATH OF WM. TOEPFER

William Toepfer, native of Ger-
many and for several years a resi-
dent of this vicinity, where he was
well known, died about 2:30 Sunday
the result of a heart attack, and after
being ill less than twenty-four hours.
Saturday afternoon Mr. Toepfer,
who lives five miles east of Brayton,
in this county, was in Atlantic and
about three o'clock was seized with
the attack. He was taken to the hos-
pital where everything possible was
done for him but it was of no avail.

Mr. Toepfer was aged 73 years, 3
months and twenty-nine days at the
time of his death. He was born in
Germany in 1852 and came to Ameri-
ca and to Des Moines in 187? where
in 1875 he was married to Mrs. Mar-
garet Strober. They came, in 1881,
to Guthrie Center and in 1890 to
Anita. In 1899 they removed to this
vicinity and Mrs. Toepfer died on the
20th of January, 1906. On the 8th
day of July, 1908, Mr. Toepfer was
married to Mrs. Mary Zuch, widow of
the late Rudolph Zuch, who survives
him. In 1917 Mr. and Mrs. Toepfer
moved to the farm east of Brayton,
where he lived when he was stricken,
and in 1919 they moved to Atlantic,
living there till 1924 when Mr.
Toepfer took back the farm and they
had lived there since. Mrs. Toepfer,
the surviving wife, has been quite ill
for a number of years.

Besides his wife, deceased is sur-
vived by eight children. The children
are Charles, at home; William, Jr.,
near Guthrie Center; George, Lorah;
Fred, Anita; Mrs. Chas. McCord, near
Atlantic; Mrs. Bertha McCord, Coun-
cil Bluffs; Miss Neva Olney, near At-
lantic and Mrs. Dora Beck, Modale.
He is also survived by a brother and
a sister, August Toepfer and Mrs.
Louis Brissauer, both of Des Moines.
Two step-sons, R. W. Zuch of Des
Moines and J. W. Zuch of Ft. Worth,
Tex., also survive and there are 24
grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at the
Atlantic church of Christ at 2 p. m.
Tuesday and interment made in the
Lorah cemetery.
