Hon. H. F. Andrews passed away at his home in Exira, Tuesday
morning. He was born at Lovell, Maine, June 27,1844. He
was married at Atlantic, Iowa, February 27, 1871, to Miss Jennie
M. Norton of Oakfield, Iowa. On July 18, 1862, he enlisted as a private in Company D,
16th Reg, Vol. Maine, Inf. and was mustered into service August
14, 1862. His regiment started for the front August 19th and he
was with them in the second battle of Fredricksburg and at Chancellorville,
May 1863 he contracted an illness from which he never
fully recovered. After a hospital experience he was with his
regiment at Gettysburg, Rappanhannock Station, Rapidam river
and back to Mine Run in November 1863. He participated in
the battles of the wilderness and Spottsylvania. He was discharged
for disability at Washington July 13, 1865.

He came to Exira, October 3, 1865, where his parents had
moved while he was in the army, and where' he has principally
resided. He taught school, worked at farming and carpentering.
He served as Audubon County Recorder 1867-8; as County
Judge in 1868; was admitted to the bar in 1870; Deputy U. S.
Marshal and U. S. enumerator for Shelby and Audubon Counties
in 1870. He attended the law department at Iowa State University
and was admitted to practice in Supreme Court and U.. S.
Department. He held the office of County Attorney from 1884-6
and was State Senator from 1892 to 1895; Mayor of Exira from
1894.5. He has been a member of nearly all local organizations,
especially and longest of the G. A. R, four times Colonel and
Aid-de-camp on the staff of the National Commander. He was
always pleased to assist old veteran comrades in procuring pensions
from the government.

Mr. Andrews was chairman of the Military Committee in
the Senate of Iowa at the time of the building of the Iowa Soldiers'Monument
of Des Moines. He was the author of the
"Andrews Family," published in 1890; "The Hamlin Family" in
1894; "The Hamlin Family" in 1900; "The Hamlin Family" in
1902; "History of Audubon County" in 1918.

He leaves to mourn his loss five children, Charles F., Jessamine
J., Wallace Pearl; John H. and Philip S. Pearl has been
here for sometime caring for his father during his last illness.

The funeral services will be held tomorrow, Friday afternoon
at the home of Miss Amber Kelsey, at 2 o'clock, Rev. Baldwin
in charge. Interment will be made at Exira cemetery.

ATTENDED FUNERAL

The out-of-town relatives and
friends, who attended the H. F.
Andrews funeral, last Friday, were:
a son, John Andrews of Shoshoni,
Wyoming; a brother, Isaac Andrews
and daughter, Edith of Atlantic;
a nephew, Guy Tingle of
Atlantic; Mrs. Warner of Atlantic.

A number of Audubon comrades
and friends were also present: Martin
Smith, John Griggs, Harp Wilson,
Charles VanGorder; Miss
Stearns and Mrs. George Scott.
We were unable to get. the names
of the others who attended.

Note: Parents of Henry Franklin "H. Frank" Andrews were Jacob Andrews and Martha Phinney Hamblen. H.F. was married to Jennie Maria Norton in 1871 and divorced in 1902.
