Audubon Township.

John Marsh and family of near
Dexter attended the funeral of his
mother Mrs. Newman here Monday.

Mrs. William Newman Sr. died at
her home Sunday after about seven
days of suffering, that time she be-
ing unable to take nourishment of
any form, due to partial paralysis.
She has been an invalid for twenty
four years and has been tenderly
watched over and cared for by her
aged husband. Five sons and one
daughter survive her, also two bro-
thers, Wm. and Henry Hocamp
were able to be with her during her
last days on earth. Hannah Ho-
camp was born in Germany about
seventy four years ago emigrating
to Illinois in early days where she
was united in marriage to Wm.
Newman who still survives her.
The only daughter, Mrs. Henry
Heckman resides in Illinois and
was unable to be present. The five
sons were able to be here as they all
reside near here. They are John,
living near Dexter, William and
Herman of Guthrie County and
Charles and Henry of this township.
The funeral services were at
the home and she was laid to rest
in the Schweneker grave yard. Rev.
Cloeter of the Lutheran church delivered
the sermon.
Folded 'neath the waving grasses
on the sunlit hill,
Free from life, and all its suffering,
mother's resting white and still,
Weary hands, like withered roses,
folded o'er an aged breast,
And the soul that long had suffered,
has at last found perfect rest.

Note: Parents of Johanne W. "Hannah" Hocamp were Peter Henrich Hocamp and Anna Catharina "Katie" Euscher. Hannah was married 1st to Arthur W. Marsh, who died in 1863 in the Civil War. She was married 2nd to William C. Newman, Sr.
