--------
Emmert Christensen Suc-
cumbs Few Hours Fol-
lowing Accident

--------

Emmert Christensen, 13, son of
Mr. and Mrs. Guy Christensen, was
injured fatally when he was struck
by a car in front of his farm home,
two miles east of Kimballton, on U.
S. highway No. 7, about 4:30 Tues-
day afternoon. The injured youth,
enroute home from school, was tak-
en to Kimballton and later rushed
to the Atlantic hospital where he
succumbed at 8:45 at night.

Emmert was brought home from
school by his teacher, Miss Gladys
Petersen. After alighting from the
teacher's car, he dashed around the
back of it and into the path of the
machine owned by Major and Mrs.
W. J. O'Connell of Des Moines and
driven by their son, Wilfred. The
driver attempted to dodge the boy
but was unsuccessful.

Those who witnessed the accident
say it was unavoidable as the boy
dashed across the pavement with-
out looking in either direction.

Both legs were fractured and his
body was badly scratched and
bruised. He was in a semi-con-
scious condition when taken to the
hospital. The attending physician
reported death was caused by shock.

The Des Moines family were en-
route to Atlantic to visit with the
Rev. P. N. McDermott when the ac-
cident occurred. Major O'Connell
is manager of Hotel Savery in Des
Moines and is prominent in Legion
circles in the middle west.

Audubon county officials are in-
vestigating the accident.

The youth is survived by his par-
ents and two brothers, Earl and
Robert.

Short funeral services were held
today at the home and main ser-
vices are at the Kimballton Lu-
theran church. The Rev. J. J. Jor-
Jorgensen had charge of the rites
and interment was in the Elk
Horn cemetery.
