G. F. Sylvester was born at Sac
City, Iowa, April 13, 1862, son of
Mr. George F. and Frances Brown-
ing and was adopted by Mr. and
Mrs. B. Sylvester at the age of
three years. They moved to Exi-
ra, Iowa, where he grew to man-
hood. In 1882 he was united in
marriage to Alice M. Knapp and
to them eight children were born,
three of whom preceded the father
in death. He was a commercial
traveler for over thirty years and
was well known in Iowa and South
Dakota. He moved to Sioux Falls
nine years ago from Watertown.
He is survived by a wife and five
children, Mrs. Alice Sylvester,
Walter Sylvester, Beulah, Ger-
trude, Clarence, Florence and a
sister, Mrr. C. A. Elliott, Lake
View, Iowa.
