It was a sad Christmas that entered the home of Byron Phelps and wife of Audubon. They had been visiting with friends in Chicago and while there their only child, a little daughter about two years of age, was taken sick and they remained several days longer than intended to await her recovery. On Tuesday the doctor pronounced the child able to travel. She appeared much better when they started from the city by the evening train, but in a couple of hours and without warning a relapse suddenly set in and in a few moments her death occurred without apparent suffering, the transition appearing like a peaceful sleep. The parents and their sad charge arrived at Atlantic early in the morning and went direct from here to their home. There are many friends in Atlantic who are deeply moved by the sad affliction of Mr. and Mrs. Phelps.
