OBITUARY

Mrs. Carrie L. Zike

Funeral services will be held at
2:30 Tuesday afternoon in the
Christian church for Mrs. Carrie
L. Zike, who died suddenly at
11:15 Saturday morning in her
home, of a heart attack. The serv-
ices will be conducted by her pas-
tor, Rev. L. A. Johnson.

Members of the Order of
Eastern Star, the Rebekah Lodge
and the Pythian Sisters will at-
tend in a body and members of
the American Legion will act as
pallbearers.

Burial will be made in the Park
cemetery with the Catlett Funeral
Service in charge.

Carrie Leona Hellyer was born
in Guthrie Center, Iowa, on May
16, 1872. She was united in mar-
riage on September 1, 1887 to
Samuel L. Zike, and came to
Columbus forty-one years ago,
having lived here ever since.

Five children were born to this
unioin, Edith, Harold and Millard
having preceded her in death. Sur-
viving her are Mrs. Madeline Bard
of Ragan, Nebr., who arrived Sun-
day afternoon and Howard Zike
with whom she made her home.

Mrs. Zike had been a faithful
member of the Christian church
since early womanhood. She was
also a member of the Order of
Eastern Star, of which she was
serving in her twen(t)y-fifth year as
secretary, the Rebekah lodge, the
American Legion Auxiliary, the
Veteran of Foreign Wars Unit,
the Security Benefit Association
and the Pythian Sisters.

Of the four sisters surviving her
two arrived Sunday, Mrs. Clint
Barnes of Omaha, Nebr., and Mrs.
Wood Kline of Exira, Iowa, Mrs.
Myrtle Nottingham, formerly of
Glenwood Springs, Colo., but who
recently moved to Los Angeles, is
enroute here and will arrive in
the morning. The other sister
Miss Gertrude Hellyer of Los
Angeles is not coming.

The daughter, Mrs. Bard, who
arrived Sunday was accompanied
by her sons, Marchall and Millard
McIntire, and her uncle, C. F.
Zike, of Edison, Nebr.--Columbus,
Kans., Tribune.

LOCAL HAPPENINGS

Mrs. Wood Kline returned home
Monday night from Columbus,
Kansas, where she had been called
because of the death of here sis-
ter, Mrs. Carrie Zike.

Note: Parents of Carrie Leona Hellyer were Van Buren Hellyer and Isabella Tracy.
