Former Exira Resident
Died Monday At Bayard

Mrs. Clark Griffin, former resi-
dent here and well known in this
section, died Monday at the home
of her daughter, Mrs. Walter Fries,
near Bayard. Death was due to
cancer.

Funeral services were held at
the Methodist church in Bayard
on Wednesday afternoon and the
body was brought to Exira for
burial.

Mrs. Clark Griffin

Ella Viola Hootman, daughter
of Henry and Mary Hootman, was
born near Cleveland, Ohio, Janu-
ary 30, 1872, and died on Novem-
ber 2, 1936, at the home of her
daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Walter
Friese at the age of 64 years, 9
months and 2 days. She was unit-
ed in marriage to Cark W. Grif-
fin on March 22, 1888, at Green
Valley, Illinois. Three children
were born to this union; Earl Ed-
ward of Exira, Mable May of
Bayard, and Ray Forrest, who
preceeded her in death on June
30, 1912; also an adopted son,
Robert P. Griffin of Derby. She
was baptized into the Methodist
faith when a young lady. She
came to Iona, Iowa, with her hus-
band and family in the spring of
1901, settling on a farm near Ex-
ira and spent the remainder of
her life in and near Guthrie
county. Mrs. Griffin was a woman
of marvelous character and high
ideals, always ready and willing to
help anyone in need especially her
friends. She was a most kind and
loving mother ever interested
in her home and loved ones,
her last conscious thought being
for their welfare. She leaves to
mourn her loss her husband, 3
children, 7 grandchildren and 6
great grandchildren, 3 sisters and
1 brother, namely: Mrs. Thomas
Goodman of Mapleton, Ill., Mrs.
Laura Champion of Harrisville,
Mo., Mrs. LaVerne Lackley of
Cleveland, Ohio, and Charles Hoot-
man of Sedalia, Mo., besides a
host of friends. Funeral services
were conducted from the Bayard
M. E. church, Wednesday after-
noon, at one o'clock, by the Rev.
C. S. Burnette and interment was
made in the cemetery at Exira.

Note: Parents were Henry Hootman and Mary E. or A. Britton.
