Funeral Exira
Pioneer Held
Here Saturday

Conducted By The Rev.

Funeral services for Mrs. Jur-
gen H. Wahlert, pioneer resident
of this county who died last Thurs-
day, were held at the home Satur-
day afternoon at 2 o'clock conduct-
ed by the Rev. A. G. Whittier, pas-
tor of the Exira Christian church.
Burial was in the Exira cemetery.

Born in Germany

Lena Delmeier, daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Jacob Delmeier, was
born in Suhult, Germany, on Feb-
ruary 26, 1842, and at the time of
her demise was aged 92 years,
four months and two days.

She was united in marriage to
Jurgen H. Wahlert on April 16,
1864. To this union eleven children
were born, one pair of twins hav-
ing died in infancy and one son,
John, died in 1932. Mr. Wahlert
died several years ago.

Mr. and Mrs. Wahlert came to
the United States in 1866 and set-
tled near Moline, Illinois. Two
years later they moved to Greeley
township in this county, where
they resided until 1898 at which
time they moved to Exira.

The Survivors

Surviving are eight children as
follows: Mrs. Edward Hackwell,
August, George and Edward Wah-
lert and Miss Minnie Wahlert, all
of Exira; William Wahlert of
Anita, Fred and Gustav Wahlert
of Hillrose, Colorado. She also
leaves 33 grandchildren, 40 great
grandchildren and numerous ne-
phews and nieces.

Lived Here 66 Years

Mrs. Wahlert had lived in this
county a period of 66 years. She
passed through all the hardships
of the early pioneers but always
maintained a cheerful disposition,
was thoughtful of the welfare of
others and her many friends bear
mute testimony to the fine regard
in which she was held in this com-
munity where she had spent so
many years.

LOCAL HAPPENINGS

Miss Florence Wahlert returned
Sunday to Des Moines. She was
called to Exira Friday because of
the death of her grandmother,
Mrs. Lena Wahlert.

Fred and Gus Wahlert and their
families of Hillrose, Colorado,
were in Exira the latter part of the
week to attend funeral services for
their mother, Mrs. Lena Wahlert,
which were held Saturday. They
left for their homes Monday morn-
ing.
