Dies Following
Long Illness

Had Been A Resident Of
Exira For Many Years.
Funeral Friday

J. S. Williams, well known cafe
man here for many years, died Wed-
nesday following a long illness. Sev-
eral months ago, Mr. Williams suf-
fured a slight stroke and since that
time had been in failing health al-
though most of the time he was
able to get about town. He was
confined to his bed only a few days
and peacefully passed away after
many hours of unconsciousness.

Jesse Stephen Williams was born
at Bolton, Missouri, May 24, 1871
and died at his home in Exira April
13, 1932.

His childhood was passed in Keo-
kuk county and later he moved with
the family to Cumberland. In 1895
he came to Exira where he has
been engaged in the restaurant bus-
iness since 1912. He was a mem-
ber of the Methodist Episcopal
church and of the Masonic Lodge.

He leaves three children; Mrs.
Bertha Layland and Stephen Wil-
liams, both of Exira, and Maxine
Williams of Audubon; two grand-
children, Leroy and Richard Lay-
land, of Exira.

The brothers and sisters who sur-
vive him are: E. L. Williams of Lin-
coln, Nebraska; Mrs. Ola Lehman
of Cedar Rapids; W. F. Williams of
Exira and Mrs. O. O. McCreight of
Des Moines.

He leaves many friends in Exira,
who have proved their friendship
and regard by their kindness and
help during his illness.

Funeral services will be held Fri-
day afternoon at 2 o'clock at the
Federated church with Rev. V. B.
Hill in charge. Burial will be in the
Atlantic cemetery.
