Oakfield Lady

day Following A Three
Months Illness

Funeral services for Mrs. E. A.
Jones, who died at her home north
of Oakfield were held at the Bap-
tist church in Brayton at two
o'clock on the afternoon of Monday,
March 23rd. Rev. A. G. Whittier,
pastor of the Exira Church of
Christ conducted the services. Bur-
ial was in Oakfield cemetery.

Mary Catherine Jones, daughter
of George and Elizabeth (Mack) Oakes, was
born on the 27th day of October,
1859, at Galena, Joe Davis County,
Illinois, and passed away Friday
morning, March 20th, at her home
one and one half miles north of
Oakfield, at the age of 71 years,
4 months and 23 days.

Mrs. Jones has been suffering
since last August and has been bed-
fast for the last three months.

She came to Iowa with her par-
ents when a young woman and set-
tled on a farm near Adair. On
May 23rd, 1883, she was united in
marriage to Erwin Alfred Jones of
Audubon County, and has since
made her home on the place where
she passed away.

The deceased was a member of
the Rebecca lodge at Brayton, and
has been associated with the Bap-
tist church since she was a young
woman.

Besides the husband mentioned
above, Mrs. Jones is survived by
six sons; O. R. Jones of Hawarden,
G. N. Jones of Brayton, C. L. Jones
of Bruce, South Dakota, J. A. Jones
of Brayton, W. E. Jones of Bray-
ton, and E. A. Jones of Bruce, South
Dakota, one daughter, Mrs. Roy
Young of Brayton, four brothers;
Joe Oakes of Hawarden, John
Oakes of Toronto, South Dakota,
Charles Oakes of Madison, South
Dakota and Wm. Oakes of Akron,
several grandchildren and 2 great-
grandchildren. A daughter, Mrs.
Celia Mae Rogers, preceded the
mother in death in 1909.

All of the children, and one
brother, W. M. Oakes, were present
for the funeral.
