Van Kline dies
here Tuesday

Van Kline died suddenly at
11:40 p.m. Tuesday at his home
here (Exira).

He returned home Tuesday
from a week's stay at the Des
Moines General hospital and
was responding satisfactorily to
treatment.

Funeral arrangements are
pending until word is received
from Lieut. Gary Kline, who is
stationed in Germany.

Rites for Van
Kline held on
Saturday

Funeral services for Van
Kline were held Saturday at
the Exira Christian church
with the Rev. Lester Pearson
in charge. Burial was in the
Exira cemetery.

He died early Wednesday at
his home here following a heart
attack. He had returned home
Tuesday from the Des Moines
General hospital where he had
been a patient for a week.

A son of Nellie Hellyer (1874-1960) and
Woodson Kline (1864-1946), Van was born
April 15, 1906, in Exira. His
entire life was spent in the Ex-
ira community. He attended the
Exira high school.

He was a member of the Ex-
ira Federated church and serv-
ed on the Exira Fire Depart-
ment.

He was united in marriage to
Myrtle Griffin (1911-1999) on October 5,
1929.

Surviving are his wife, five
children, Charles of LaPorte
City, Jerry of Bettendorf, Lt.
Garry, now stationed in Ger-
many, Beverly Wilson of Ex-
ira and Connie Esbeck of Bray-
ton; 10 grandchildren; four bro-
thers, Leonard and Dallas of
Exira, Mark of Belmond and
Eldred of Cleveland, Ohio;
three sisters, Leila Nelson (1896-1987) and
Merle Wheeler (1908-1974), both of Exira,
and Genevieve Kness (1900-1972) of Guth-
rie Center.
