HAMLIN TOWNSHIP LADY
LAID TO REST YESTERDAY

---------

Funeral services were conducted at
the Fred Christensen home yesterday
for the late Mrs. Jens P. Christensen,
Rev. P. C. Jensen, pastor of the Ham-
lin Lutheran church, in charge. Bur-
ial was in the Jacksonville cemetery,
in Shelby county.

Jensine Christensen, nee Petersen,
wife of Jens P. Christensen, residing
southwest of Hamlin, Iowa, was born
March 27, 1844 at Klarup, Tors Sogn,
Denmark. Her early life was spent
in her native country where on Dec-
ember 17, 1870, she was married to
her now bereaved husband, who is a
few years her junior. To this long and
happy union were born seven chil-
dren, of which three have died in the
old country and one in this country.
Those surviving their mother are Mrs.
Mike Christensen, Harlan, Ia; Mrs.
Clemen Petersen and Mrs. Fred Chris-
tensen, both living on farms near
where the old folks resided.

Mr. and Mrs. Christensen immigrat-
ed to Iowa in 1881, where they made
their first home in Avoca and later
moved ot their present home near
Hamlin. In spite of her advanced age
and failing health the latter years
Mrs. Christensen was able to attend
to her own household work, and even
assisted the children when a helping
hand was needed. She was of a kind
and amiable dipsostion, the cherished
mother of her children and a loveable
wife to her husband, who now deeply
mourn the passing of his sweet help-
meet of more than a half century.

The deceased was at one time a
member of a Baptist church at Cup-
py's Grove, Shelby county, however,
she has had no definite church affilia-
tion for the last thirty years, but was
in sympathy with the Danish Luther-
an work of her neighborhood. Visit-
ing with them we always were im-
pressed with their Christian devotion
and knowledge. These two happy old
friends worshipped at home in their
own quaint way, in fact Mrs. Christ-
ensen was seldom seen outside of her
little home, where she delighted to
dwell with her more able and active
companion of life.

On Sunday, February 14, at noon
she suddenly became ill and relapsed
gently into unconsciousness until she
breathed her last Monday morning
the 15th of February, at the ripe age
of nearly 82 years. May she rest in
peace with her Maker and Saviour and
we pray God give comfort to her dear
bereaved.
