The death of Mrs. John Artist oc-

of Exira Tuesday evening, following
only a few days illness. News of this
good lady's death came as a shock to
the entire community, as it was not
generally known that she was ill. On
Thursday she visited with her mother,
Mrs. Andrew Dove, at North Branch,
and was in good health and feeling
fine. During the evening she was ta-
ken ill and gradually grew worse until
the time of her death.

Mrs. Artist had suffered from asth-
ma for several years and this coupled
with an attack of grippe, affected her
heart and was the cause of her death.
Mrs. Artist was 44 years of age on
October 31, 1925. She was born in
Canada.

Mrs. Artist's maiden name was
Mamie Goochey. Her father died sev-
eral years ago and her mother is now
the wife of Rev. Andrew Dove, pastor
of Bowman Chapel in Greeley town-
ship. She leaves to mourn her loss,
her mother, her husband, four sons,
three daughters, three sisters and one
brother. The sons are Homer, Hugh,
John, Jr., and Daniel, and the daugh-
ters are Helen, Marjorie and Amy, all
at home. The sisters are Mrs. Will
Covault, Mrs. George Lockery and
Mrs. Uriah Wright, and the brother
Charles Goochey of Fancher, Iowa.
All of the sisters are residents of this
county.

Funeral services were held this af-
ternoon at two o'clock at Bowman
Chapel, preceded by a short service at
the home at 1:30, conducted by Rev.
A. Rust, pastor of the Union Baptist
church. Burial was made in Bowman

MRS. MAMIE ARTIST

Mamie Goochey was born October
30, 1881, in Guthrie county, Iowa, and
passed away February 2, 1926, at her
home in Audubon county, aged 44
years, 3 months and 3 days.

Her entire live was spent in Guthrie
and Audubon county.

After obtaining her education she
became a teacher in the rural schools
until March 5, 1904, when she was uni-
ted in marriage to John Artist.

To them were born seven children
Homer, Hugh, Helen, Margery, John
Jr., Amy and Daniel.

She became a Christian and joined
the Union Baptist church at the age
of 14 years. And those who knew her
best understood how she enjoyed her
religion and with the help of her hus-
band raised her children in a good
Christian home.

She was one whom people called a
wonderful Mother and just why God
called her we cannot understand, but
we "sorrow not even as others which
have no hope."

She leaves a devoted husband and
loving children; her mother, Mrs.
Goochey Dove; a twin sister, Mrs.
Amy Covault; two other sisters, Mrs.
Eva Wright, Mrs. Essie Laughery,
one brother, Charles Goochey and
many othere relatives and friends.

Fear thou not; for I am with thee;
be not dismayed for I am thy God; I
will strengthen thee; yea, I will help
thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the
right hand of my righteousness.
Isaiah 41 : 10
