WELL KNOWN EXA(I)RA
LADY DIED MONDAY

--------
Had Resided in This Vicinity
For Almost Forty Years.
Funeral Held Today.

---------

Mrs. Peter Gude, well known Exira
lady, passed away at her home here
Monday morning, following an illness
of several years, dropsy being given
as the cause of her death. Funeral
services are being held from the home
today at one o'clock and from the
Danish Lutheran church at one-thirty,
conducted by Rev. P. C. Jensen, lo-
cal pastor, assisted by Rev. H. L. Jen-
sen of Bethany. Burial will be at
St. John's cemetery.

Jensina Jensen was born November
3, 1869, at Sorregaard, Jutland, Den-
mark. Her childhood was spent in
the land of her birth, where she re-
ceived early training in the public
school, both in general knowledge
and Chris(t)ianity. At the age of six-
teen she came to America and located
in this community, where two years
later she was married to Peter Gude,
with whom she enjoyed a happy wed-
lock of 38 years and who now mourns
the loss of a faithful and accomplish-
ed wife and his cheerful companion
in life.

The first part of their wedded life
was spent on farms in this vicinity,
until eighteen years ago when they
moved to their present home in this
city.

Ten children were born to this
union, three of whom preceeded the
mother in death. Follwing are the
children who survive: George Gude,
Kimballton; Mrs. Lizzie Bartlett and
Mrs. Ella Meyers, Exira; Chris Gude,
Audubon; Mrs. Hannah Wonsmos, At-
water, Minn.; Mrs. Anna Wolfinger,
Atlantic, and Edna at home. They
loved their mother and feel deeply
the great loss they suffer in her
passing. The deceased is also sur-
vived by a brother, Oluf Jensen, Au-
dubon, and four brothers and two
sisters in the old country.

Our sympathy is extended to the
many bereaved. However, her de-
mise did not come of a sudden. For
years she has suffered attacks of
serious diseases, but overcome them
all. During the last four years, the
steady encroachment of dropsy fin-
ally broke down her marvelous vi-
tality and ended a good and busy
life by her death Monday morning,
Oct. 5th. All her dear ones were
gathered about her deathbed and
were comforted by her quiet passing
from this earthly abode among trials
and disease to a better land beyond.
Thus is our hope and prayers.

Mrs. Gude was baptized and con-
firmed in the Lutheran church of her
native land, over here she and fami-
ly affiliated with the Danish Luther-
an church at Exira about two years
ago, but her constant confinement
prevented her in taking an active
hand in God's work among us. How-
ever, in her home we have enjoyed
the things of God's salvation in
Christ Jesus many a time, last time
shortly before her passing, when she
rejoiced at the prospect of a heaven-
ly home, prepared for her by her
Saviour. May she rest in peace and
light forever.
