noon and is quite ill. Her son, George
Martin, and wife recently came from
Federal, Wyoming, to care for her.

PIONEER PASSES ON AFTER SHORT ILLNESS
Had Lived in This County Nearly Sixty Years, Funeral Held This AfternoonThe death of Mrs. Elizabeth Martin, widow of the late James Martin, occured Tuesday morning about 10:30 following a stroke of paralysis a week ago Saturday. Mrs. Martin had been an invalid for many years and unable to get about. She was aged seventy-eight years, six months and ten days.
Mrs. Martin whose maiden mane was Elizabeth Jane Goforth, was born in Kentucky, September 13, 1847. In her girlhood, she came with her parents in Iowa, settling in Linn County where later she married James Martin. The family came to Exira in 1869 and lived on a farm in Audubon Township until twenty-three years ago this spring, when they moved to this city. Here, Mr. Martin died on September 29, last year.
George Martin, a son and his wife arrived from Federal, Wyoming, three weeks ago to make their home here and care for his mother who spent the winter with her children in this vicinity, and returned to her home only two days before she was stricken.
Four sons and three daughters survive Mrs. Martin. They are John, George and Bruce of Exira, Rodney of Spokane, Washington, Mrs. Blanche Davis, Mrs. Jessie Phippen and Mrs. Winifred Ridgley, all of Exira; one daughter died in infancy (Lula Belle).
Funeral services were held at two o'clock this afternoon (March 25, 1926) at the Christian Church, conducted by Rev. Robert N. Chord of Anita, Iowa. Burial was in the Exira Cemetery.
