Pioneer Resident
Passes Sunday

----------

Fremont Anders, well known resi-
dent of this place, died at his home
Sunday evening following a long ill-
ness. Mr. Anders suffered a paralytic
stroke about two years ago but re-
covered sufficiently to be around
town, then about eight months ago he
sufered a second stroke since which
time he has been confined to his bed.
During his entire illness he was cheer-
ful and bore his illness uncomplaining-
ly.

Fremont Anders was born at Solon,
Johnson county, Iowa, on November
6, 1850. Here he grew to manhood
and in 1873 he was married to Bar-
bara Elizabeth Baylor at Iowa City.
In the year 1877, they came to Audu-
bon county and for a number of years
resided on farms near this place.
Later they moved to Exira where Mr.
Anders engaged in the drayage busi-
ness. For many years he was em-
ployed by the county in hauling bridge
lumber and material to various places
in this territory. It has been only a
few years since he was still actively
engaged at this work.

Surviving him are the wife and com-
panion of more than fifty-six years,
four children and one brother. The
children are William O. of Seattle,
Washington, George A. of Columbia
Falls, Montana, Mrs. Doll Spoo of
Exira, and Miss Ina C. of Omaha,
Nebraska. The brother, Albert An-
ders, lives in Cedar Rapids. One son
died in infancy.

Funeral services were held at the
home Wednesday afternoon at two
o'clock with the Rev. Virgil B. Hill
in charge. Burial was in Exira Ceme-
tery.
