ILL HEALTH CAUSED
WAHLERT SUICIDE

--------
Jacob Wahlert Sr. Found
Dead at Home of Daugh-
ter, Mrs. Porter

--------

Jacob Wahlert, a well known
and highly respected resident of
this community, was found dead
with a rope around his neck, at the
home of his daughter, Mrs. Will
Porter, at two o'clock Tuesday af-
ternoon. He had rolled off his bed
after tying the rope to the bedpost
and around his neck.

A coroner's inquest was held and
suicide was the verdict arrived at.

Mr. Wahlert was nearly seventy-
five years old, and because of ill
health was despondent, which is
supposed to have been the cause of
his rash act.

Jacob F. Wahlert was born in
Germany July 4, 1846. He was
one of a family of nine children
who came to America in early life.

In 1874, he was married in Rock
Island county, Illinois, to Ear-
nestine Fritchie. To this union
nine children were born, seven of
whom are living.

In 1874, they came to Iowa and
bought land in Greeley township,
Audubon county. They engaged
in farming in which they prospered.

In 1890, his wife died, since
which he has made his home with
his children. He was a devout
member of the German Lutheran
church, and his children were
reared in that faith.

He was a grand good man, high-
ly respected and esteemed by
friends and neighbors who deplore
his tragic death.

All extend sympathy ot the be-
reaved and sorrowing children, and
other relatives who are called to
mourn his untimely end.

Funeral services will be held at
the Christian church tommorrow
(Friday) afternoon at 1:30, Rev.
Eppard in charge, and the remains
will be laid to rest in the Schwen-
neker cemetery.
