Sophia Amalia Nielsen, nee Simon-
sen, Exira, Iowa, died July 6th, 1925,
at her home in the south part of town.
She was born May 22, 1851 in Tosle
parish, near Saeby, Denmark. After
having been married twice in the old
country, she immigrated to this coun-
try in the year of 1891 and made her
first home in Linn county, Iowa, where
she was married to Mr. N. C. Nielsen,
who now survives her. She was the
mother of six children, of which a
daughter died at an early age, while
five sons are living to mourn her
passing. Of these John J. Nielson,
Woonsocket, So. Dakota, is of her
latest marriage, and of her former
wedlocks are Mike Simonsen, Exira,
Walter Nelson, Herman, Nebr.; Nels
Nelson, address unknown, and Jim
Nelson, Des Moines. Also fifteen
grandchildren survive her.Mrs. Nielsen is the last of six
brothers and sisters to pass away.
She was 74 years, 1 month and 14
days old and her days have been filled
with toil and trouble, but also with
triumph. She was a hard worker
with a cheerful desposition. She was
baptized as infant into communion
with Christ and membership of the
Lutheran church, of which she remain-
ed a faithful adherent to the end.
She delighted in the gospel services,
especially during her latter years, and
was ready to serve where a weak
but willing hand was needed. For
many years her eyesight has been
poor and caused her much annoyance.During the last couple of years
Mrs. Nielsen was afflicted with Dia
betes, which disease finally caused her
demise after much suffering which she
bore with fortitude and faith in her
God and Savior. We will miss her
at our church service and elsewhere
in our congregational life; but most
she will be missed in her home, where
she was always a faithful wife and
has been a good mother and grand-
mother. Our sympathy is expressed
to her bereaved husband and children.
May God grant you to meet her in the
heavenly dwelling of God. Our Dan-
ish Lutheran Congregation mourns
the loss of a good member, but we re-
joice at the fact she was prepared to
join the white-robed host over yonder
in the holy presence of Christ, our
Lord.Funeral services were held Wednes-
day at the local Danish Lutheran
church, conducted by Rev. P. C. Jen-
sen, and interment at the Exira ceme-
tery.
