Taken from the September 1, 1904 Audubon Advocate:
O. H. P. Roberts was born in Lawrenceburg, Dearborn County, Indiana February 6, 1829. In 1841 he came with his parents to Henderson County, Illinois. Here in 1854 he was united in marriage to Margaret Ross to whom were born 4 children, all of whom are dead. in 1864 he again married Margaret Miller who after 40 years of married life, survives to mourn him, not as a disconsolate and unconsolabe one but in the rich blessings of the promises of Christ. To this union seven children were born; Wm. S., Herbert M., Robert E., Ida L. Ruhs, Mary E. Bates, Louis W., Oscar P., of this family all are living to hold sacred the memory of a good father except Mrs. Ida L. Ruhs, and all were at the obsequies except Louis who is in Los Angeles, Calif.
On August 28th very peacefully he bade farewell to the earthly home after 75 years, 6 months, and 22 days of sojourning here. A full half century ago he was converted and gave his manhood years in service to his Savior. For a half score of years he has been denied the privilege of the sanctuary by reason of ill health, but especially by loss of hearing. What higher tribute than this from his neighbors? "He was a Christian gentleman". He was a member of the Masonic fraternity and was buried with the solem and impressive ceremonies of the order. The theme of the discourse was that of "Privilege" drawn from I John 3:1, 2 "Behold what names of love the father hath bestowed upon us that we should be called sons of God". Peace to his ashes and love to his memory. W. F. McCormick, minister
