OBITUARY: G.W. Sutton died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Samuel Shoup, of this city, October 30 after an illness of eleven weeks. The funeral was held last Thursday November 1, at the Baptist church, conducted by Rev. McSparran pastor of the Christian church, assisted by Rev. Hinkhouse pastor of the Presbyterian church of this place. G.W. Sutton was born in Saline county, Ill., Feb. 27, 1818. At the age of nineteen he moved to Sangamon county, Ill., and in 1839 was married to Ada Smith of that place. Nine children was born to them, seven girls and two boys. Six of whom are living. Four of them, Mrs. Samuel Shoup and Mrs. H.S. Slayton, of this place, Mrs. J.H. Johnson of Lincoln and Mr. W.P. Sutton of Griswold were at his bedside at the time of his death. Mr. Sutton united with the Christian church in 1848 and lived a constant christian in that faith till his death. He moved his family to this state in 1884 and in 1888 his wife departed this life. Before his death he selected the text to be preached at his funeral, it being Isaiah 35th Chapter and 8th to 10th verse, also that Rev. McSparron assisted by Rev. Hinkhouse should preach his funeral, also his favorite song, "Jesus Lover of My Soul", should be sung. Mr. Sutton was a man of integrity and ability. He had great interest in public questions and was thoroughly alive to the great events of the world. He was a good citizen as well as a good man and was highly respected by all who knew him.
