Taken from the August 18, 1892 Audubon County Republican:
OBITUARY: Mrs. Ida L. Ruhs daughter of Mr. & Mrs. O. H. P. Roberts was born in Leroy township, Feburary 18, 1872 and died August 13, 1892, in her twenty-first year of consumption. August 26, 1891, she was married to Mr. John Ruhs. In 1887 at the age of fifteen she became a member of Bethel M. E. Church in Melville, township. When she went with her father to Arkansas her church relation was transferred to the M. E. Church in the place where they resided. On their return to Iowa they resided for a few months in Audubon, during that time she was an active member in the Young Peoples Society of Christian Endeavor of the Presbyterian Church and an earnest worker. Upon their return to the farm she again became a member of Bethel Church. Naturally amiable and affectionate and possessed of rare social qualites, she had a large circle of devoted friends whose thoughtful care for her was constant through the whole period of her sickness. As a Christian and a member of the church she was faithful, consistent, and loyal to Christ and the Church. During her sickness of about eight months, often in great suffering, she manifested a rare patience and cheerfulness; and though as she came nearer to the end she felt a natural shrinking and a fear in view of the near approach to eternal realities, yet the cloud lifted and the clear light of glad asurance brightened the valley of the shadow; the great Shepherd was with her and his rod and his staff comforted her. Her last words to loved ones were, "I am going home, meet me in Heaven." The funeral was on August 15, at the home of her father, the services conducted by Rev. E. Dickinson. The attendance was very large and sympathy and sorrow were attested by abundant tears. Very beautiful and appropriate was the singing at the open grave, "We'll Never Say Good-Bye in Heaven." "The Memory of the Just is Blessed." E.D.
