Dewey Henry Kness was born to George and Mary Henry Kness on the family
farm in Audubon County, Iowa.
On Feb, 28 1922 Dewey married Genevive Kline in Exira. To this union
were born nine children. In the early 30's, they moved to Guthrie Center
where they continued to farm until 1948 when they moved to Guthrie Center.
They moved to Panora in 1970. Genevive died in 1972 and Dewey lived at
the Panora Hotel until 1979 when he moved to the Craft Care Center.
Dewey was an avid gardener and took pleasure in giving away his crop.
On Jan. 4, 1987 at the age of 88, Dewey died at the Craft Care Center
following an extended illness. He was preceded in death by his parents,
his wife, a daughter, four brothers and five sisters.
He is survived by five sons: Raymond of Des Moines, Richard of San Juan,
Tex., Robert of Guthrie Center, Donald of Cedar Rapids, and Maurice of
Houston, Texas; three daughters, Lela Crowder of Guthrie Center, Ruby
Craun of Ocheyedan and Gladys Larsen of Stuart; 35 grandchildren; 56
great grandchildren and one great, great-grandchild; one brother, Kenneth
Kness of Arkansas and three sisters, Beulah Stetzel of Guthrie Center,
Doris Carper of Ankeny and Bessie Rasmussen of Elk Horn.
Funeral services were Wednesday, Jan. 7 at 10:30 a.m. at the First
Christian Church in Panora. Rev. Vel Luse officiated. Burial was in the
Union Cemetery, Guthrie Center.
