Body Brought to This City,
and Laid to Rest in
Bear Grove Cemetery--------
William Henry Dewey, son of
Alonzo B. and Emeline (Washburn) Dewey, was
born at Canton, Illinois, May 22,
1844 and passed away January 6,
1920, at Adrian, Missouri, at the
age of 75 years, 8 months and 15
days.The early part of his life was
spent an a farm near Bushnell, Illi-
nois with his father, brothers and
sisters, his mother having died
when he was 15 months of age. He
enlisted in volunteer service for
his country in August 1862 in Co.
H. 119th Ill. at Bushnell, Illinois,
and served until Sept. 12, 1865.He was married to Elizabeth
Williams, March 1, 1868, at Bush-
nell, Illinois. To this union were
born five children, May E., William
Edwin, Charles Wilson, Ernest
Arthur and George Harrison. The
wife and four boys have preceded
him to the Great Beyond. George
Harrison, the last and youngest son
died in the service of his country,
November 7, 1918 after being re-
turned from France. This was a
hard blow to the aged father. The
only member of this family left is
May E., the only daughter and
oldest of the family.In his earlier days he made a
confession of faith and has ever
lived a clean life. He was a kind
husband and father. In his late
sickness he was patient and un-
complaining to the last.The remains were brot to Exira,
Friday and the funeral services
were held at the Greeley township
Union Baptist church, conducted
by A. Dove. The body was laid
to rest in the Bear Grove cemetery
beside his wife and sons.Our sympathy is extended to the
