OLD SETTLER
GONE TO REWARD

--------
Has Been a Resident of This
County Many Years.
Lived With Son.

--------

Bertha Christina Jensen died at
the home of her son, J. W. Jensen,
Thursday morning, February 5,
1920. She was eighty-five years of
age last March. Her death was
caused by old age, gall stones and
complications.

She came to Racine, Wisconsin,
in September 1863, and was mar-
ried to Hans Jensen the following
November. To this union were
born two sons, one dying in infan-
cy at Raymond, Wisconsin, and
the other living at Exira, Iowa.
Her husband preceded her in death
twelve years ago.

In 1869 they came to Shelby
County settling north of Walnut,
near Cuppy's Grove. They moved
to Audubon County in 1881.

Like the other pioneers her life
was a busy one, but she alway
found sometime to help her neigh-
bors and visit the sick. She gave
her heart to God when about twen-
ty years old, being then a member
of the Lutheran State Church. A
few years later she joined the Bap-
tist Church and about 1870 united
with the S. D. Adventist people.
During all these years she believed
in Christ as her redeemer, and her
trust in God during her last illness
gave her courage and hope. She
died firmly believing that she will
have a part in the first resurrection
and a home with the redeemed.

Funeral services were held Satur-
day afternoon at the S. D. Advent-
ist Church, conducted by Elder
Leffler. Interment was made in
the Exira cemetery.
