AFTER LONG ILLNESS XERXES KNOX DIESMr. Xerxes Knox passed away Tuesday afternoon at 4 o'clock at his home in this city (Exira). He suffered a stroke of paralysis last August and has been in poor health since. At the time of his death he was 86 years of age. He was a veteran of the Civil War. Mr Knox leaves five sons and three daughters. A complete obituary will be printed next week.
The funeral will be held tomorrow afternoon at 2:30 at the home, conducted by Rev. Rasmussen. Interment will be made in the Exira cemetery.

PIONEER RESIDENT GONE TO REWARDXerxes Knox was born at Zanesville, Ohio, April 17th, 1834. He came to Iowa in the year 1856. In the spring of 1861 he enlisted in the Union Army and served three and a half years in Company G of the 3rd Iowa Calvary. After the Civil War he came to Audubon County, having resided most of the time in and near Exira.
Mr. Knox was married twice. His first wife was Phebe Huntley. After her death in July 1866, he was married to Nancy Smith. To this union nine children were born, six sons and three daughters, of whom one son passed away in infancy.
Mr. Knox passed away at his home in Exira, Tuesday, February 24th at the age of 85 years, 10 months, 11 days. He leaves three daughters, Mrs. Al Fredericks, Mrs. Miller and Miss Luella Knox, and five sons, Geroge, Sherman, Grant, John and Kirk. All were present at the funeral exceping Grant, who was unable to get here.
Funeral services were held at the home Friday afternoon and were conducted by Rev. Rasmussen. Interment at Exira cemetery.
