A new method of attack on the li-
quor traffic in Iowa is being launched
by the state bureau of criminal in-
vestigation in the form of a 28 page
booklet which lists 1,204 persons sus-
pected by authorities of transport-
ing intoxicating liquor in automo-
biles.

The booklet, compiled from names,
addresses and automobile license
numbers furnished by sheriffs, chiefs
of police and federal and state au-
thorities, is being sent out to authori-
ties in every section of Iowa.

James E. Risden, chief of the
state bureau said the list is incom-
plete because new sheriffs who as-
sumed their duties early this year
in 39 of the 99 counties were unable
to provide a list of bootlegger sus-
pects.

Individual lists for 82 counties are
contained in the booklet which is
without preface or explanation other
than the heading, "List of cars sus-
pected of transporting intoxicating
liquors reported by sheriffs and
chiefs of police---1931."

Seventeen are listed in Audubon
county.

Reports are lacking for seventeen
counties. If these had reported the
average number of names the book-
let would contain nearly 1,500 names
according to Mr. Risden.
