The only entry in the 1878 book is this brief listing:

Coltrain, S. L., far., S. 8 ; P. 0. Moravia

In the 1880 Appanoose County census the oldest child is 18 and all children are listed as born in Iowa.

The family is not listed anywhere in the 1860 census taken June 1 so perhaps they were in transit at that time.

This Findagrave entry linkd below for his oldest son says he was born in Moravia (Union Township):

"Robert Franklin Coltrain, son of Linden and Mary Croft Coltrain, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Rosa Blumer, on Wednesday morning. He was born in Moravia, Oct. 4, 1861"

So they arrived some time between June 1, 1860 and October 4, 1861.

Here's the only entry I can find in the local papers about his death:

"Scatterburg, August 22 - Len Coltrain died August 21st. Death was caused by paralysis and falling out a a wagon coming from Moravia, and the team throwing him out and fracturing his skull caused his death. Funeral will be at the late resident and internment in the Sales Cemetery.

Scatterberg is long gone but it was in the northwest corner of Union Township. This 1915 Union Township plat map will help you locate it in section 8, and there was lots of land in the family at that time.
