I checked the Appanoose County newspaper archives and there's no mention of him. There were few issues in existence from that early time frame and none from that year.

I had an ancestor who died about the same time and he was buried on family farm (so say family legend), therefore no record. Few cemeteries were in existence at that time.

For land records, you could try contacting the Appanoose County Recorder to see if records exist back that far and if they will help you.
